Shopping at farmers’ markets and farm stands as well as supporting community supported agriculture means a healthier community and a healthier you! Here are some of the benefits of shopping at farmers’ markets, farm stands, and community supported agriculture businesses:

  • Pesticide and chemical-free produce often costs less than the grocery store organics.
  • Fertilizers and pesticides used in conventional farming have been shown to be carcinogenic and disruptive to the endocrine system.
  • Eating vibrant, just-harvested produce means better flavor and more a nutrient-rich diet.
  • Less CO2 emissions from the energy required to transport refrigerated produce.
  • No groundwater pollution from pesticides and fertilizers, which ensures better drinking water for us and future generations.
  • No damage to the fish population from pollution caused by the runoff of fertilizers that feeds oxygen-depleting organisms and harm our fisheries, lakes, ponds, and streams.
  • Nutrient cycling of the soil means the soil remains productive for generations.
  • Humane treatment of animals.
  • Taking that Big Ag industry from large corporations and putting those dollars, instead, into the local economy and pockets.
